Once you grind the rivets away from the underside of the control arm, that’s correct it don’t work if you do it from the top. You have to flip it over and grind them away from the bottom. once you do a wack with a hammer and it will pop out.
Here is a video about the correct way to remove the rivets so you can put in the new ball joints! FYI They did this on both the upper and lower control arms….
