63 – 64 Ford Galaxie Control arm offset bolt removal.

Ok so Ford done screwed up! In 1963 & 1964 Ford used a offset bolt on the lower control arm. This allows the suspension to move providing a “smoother” ride at lower speeds. But this sacrifices the feeling of stability at freeway speeds. And lets not get into the tire ware because of a jacked up alignment.

Offset Bolt for 1963 & 1964 Ford Galaxie.

It only took ford 2 years to figure out this was a bad idea and scrap the offset bolt. But they had to of known because Taxis and Police Interceptors had a bar that eliminated the movement and stiffens up the front end alot.

On a side note the large bolt is called a concentric nut, the size of this bolt is a 1 7/8 inch. You can find a socket on Amazon, I got my from O’Rielly Auto I had to have them order it from the warehouse. I’m lucky the warehouse is near by and i was able to get it the same day.

Here is a video of me removing this bolt from the control arm and explaining the options for replacement.

To fix the issues with the slop on the front end you can find replacement kits, they look a little shady and over priced for what they give so so i found this option:

offset bolt eliminator using your parts.
Use your own large nut and get a new shaft added and the correct spacers for around $250

I found a guy “Born again classics” that will take your old concentric nuts (shown above) and attached a new shaft and provide the spacers for around $250.
Or he sells a brand new bolt for $350. (Shown below)

Buy a brand new bolt for $350 and you don’t need to send in your old parts.

This guy was supper friendly on the phone and did suggest that i replace my control arm bushings since I am this far into the suspension. I already had them ordered.
Here is his site and contact info:

I opted to to go with the new bolts, the new bolt requires a 2 inch socket, amazon has them for around 10$

Keep an eye out for my next post and video showing me the installation.
