Background on the 1963 Ford Country sedan.

After the passing of my great uncle (A good man with lots of hobbies), My uncle, Father and I were sitting in the front yard taking a break from loading my great uncle’s stuff. While sitting we looked over at the car tent and I asked what was going to happen with the 63, Both my father and uncle did not want it, my uncle even mentioned putting it on the curb and letting it get towed. I said well in that case let me tow it away for your. I would love to have it as a project car. It didn’t take much convincing, as my uncle put it “Well with all the work you have in front of you, i have no issues letting you have it”. And with that I took ownership of the 1963 Ford Country Sedan.

My excitement couldn’t be contained, the next day I showed up with parts to see if i could get the old girl running. I noticed that fuel was not making it to the crab and any car can use a new cap and rotor. After giving the battery a long overdue charge it took a few clicks but the engine turned over and the vehicle started. I was so surprised that it started. I estimate that the car sat for 5 or more years in that car port. I did notice that the engine was smoking a bit (white smoke). I figured hey it’s an old car and not built to run on unleaded gas, so a little smoke is expected.

Now the next step was to see if this large girl could still dance, I did a once over to ensure the tires had air and nothing was blocking the tires. I started her up again and put it in gear. and to everyone’s surprise she moved. At first i just flipped her around and got out to take a better look at my new toy…

And it did not disappoint me, a well american made metal boat. This thing is large and has all that is expected in a 1960’s station wagon. Beautiful curves and a classic look. I couldn’t wait to get this thing home and give it a bath.

After ensuring my half ass tune up did the job and i didn’t have any major leaks of any kind, it was time to take it for a drive. If you happen to know Washington you may have heard of the Puyallup Fair. The Puyallup Fair is Washington states fair ground’s, twice a year the fair is fully open. The rest of the time it’s open to trade shows, exhibit shows, and car shows. Hey now hold on don’t get ahead of my story LOL. On my vehicles first excursion I took it down to the road that goes along the back of the Puyallup Fair and low and behold the fair was having a car show. It was a Sunday and the show was winding down. I got so many shouts and thumbs up i caught the car show fever, I knew at some point I would have this car in the a car show.

After that successful and graceful test drive I decided to drive it home that night and what a drive it was. It wasn’t fast It was a little nerve racking, not being familiar with the the car. But I had a huge smile on my face the entire 40 min drive home. This car shifted amazing, the engine needed some work as it did smoke and I had to keep one foot on the brake and one on the gas to keep it running at a stop sign. But that will get fixed over time.
